I have a mild build 360 with magnum heads. The headers I'm looking at have a 2.5" outlet. I'm on a tight budget, so what would happen if I used a single exhaust system after the headers?

I was looking at running the 2.5"s into a 3" outlet Y on back. Also there would be an electric exhaust cutout after the Y. What would the affects be?

What would the car sound like running a wide open Y pipe?

If there isn't a good idea, are there any ways to do it properly, or close to at least, with only 1 cutout and still sound good?

Don't buy the electric cut out and you will have more money for a real exhaust.

If you are cash strapped run 2 1/4" dual off the headers (to the mufflers and don't buy expensive mufflers) then dump it at the rear axle.

If your budget allows go with 2 1/2" (but 2 1/4 should be fine for a mild 360)

Then……. When you have some more money, put tail pipes on it.

Sometime along the line when your budget allows have an "H" pipe added.

There…… You are done.

Thanks, I'll look into that! So the Y pipe with cutout would still be very restrictive?

If you want cutouts, use the kind with gaskets, install right behind collectors. Flowmaster makes y-branches in both 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" to 3". Summit or any of the usual suspects should have them.
