273 or 225?

I’m getting ready to drop in a fresh 273 in my Valiant. Has a 74 318 in it right now. Given the present economy, the availability of parts and the lack of good machine shops that are still in business, if I had to do it all over again I’d go with a crate motor.

Duly noted.

Machine shop costs only just pretty much vary by condition of engine and easy to figure what part costs will be for any engine. Cost of pistons is what can really vary.

Like painting a car, costs about the same to do a slant Dart as a Hemi RoadRunnner. Materials and labor. Condition is the KEY!!!! :BangHead:

I figure we should always try to build what we will love so after the memory of costs is long past!

For me, the sound of the exhaust would be worth the swap.

My Dart slant sounds like a Ferrari with the Dutra Duals and accurate exhaust. It draws a crowd. I have a 66 with a 360 backdated to look like a 273 and I still enjoy this one better. Deck the block to get compression, oversized valves, Dutra Duals or headers, recurve the distributor and more carb and a 225 will make you smile.
