Rebuilding a 73 340. Heard about a plug that is in the area of the distributor. Can be checked by poking a rod somewhere in that area. Sounded like some kind of oil galley plug. Has anyone heard of this?

yes,on the rear of the block there is a pipe plug that is in line with the distributor,if you pull it out there is a smaller plug in line with it,you should be able to pull the distributor and go down there with a small mirror and flashlight to see if it is installed,i take it your having oil pressure problems after a rebuild?any way you should be able to tell if it is in there or not but I ain't got a clue how to install it now that the engine is installed.Good Luck.

Holy crap man. I just checked my 340, that I just got out of the shop and that plug wasn't installed.

That brings the total screw-ups on my engine to 4!!! Woo!!!

P.S. Thanks for that link fourspeed.
