I ran an Milodon pan with no tray. Indy headed 13-1 416 with a 707 solid roller lift cam Never filled the system up past the full mark on the stick . I consistently shifted this car at 8500 and had seen recalls up to 9300 . Street and highway driven with a 5500 stall and 456 gears for over 6 yrs. What I did use is Prolong oil treatment after broke in. The main thing is keep the oil low and away from the crank.
(Prolong) The stuff you see at shows where the guy is running an engine all week with no oil pan at all. Ran it in my truck for over a year with no oil at all due to melted piston. Reused the cam in my new engine. Just bought more I used it on my furnace blower fan in the pipe. It kept seizing when hot. Never blew as much air as it does now,
Get it ,use it ,and feel the difference in a couple miles. Never worry about sucking the pan dry. I put it in everything. My wife cuts the grass and never checks the oil in the tractor. Many times in the last 5 yrs I found it empty. I even used it on my hot arm 1/24 scale slot cars.

Prolong Engine Treatment is a chemical additive that uses Anti-Friction Metal Treatment (AFMT) technology to bond with engine metal surfaces, creating a protective layer that reduces friction, heat, and wear in gas and diesel engines, even protecting during oil loss. Added to motor oil, it chemically alters metal to smooth out peaks and valleys, improving efficiency, fuel economy, and performance, with follow-up applications recommended at each oil change using a booster.
How it works
- Bonds to metal:
Prolong molecules chemically bond with engine parts, creating a durable, lubricating layer.
- Reduces friction and heat:
This layer fills microscopic valleys on metal surfaces, reducing metal-on-metal contact, which lowers damaging heat and friction.
- Protects during oil loss:
The bonded layer provides lubrication even when oil isn't fully circulating, helping prevent catastrophic engine failure if oil is lost.
- No solid particles:
Unlike some competitors, it doesn't contain PTFE, molys, zinc, or graphite.
How to use it
- Initial application: Add the main 12oz treatment to your engine when the oil is warm.
- Follow-up: Use the 8oz Booster at every oil change to renew protection.
- Application rate: For most engines, use 10% of the oil volume (e.g., 12oz for 4-5 quarts), but check instructions for specific needs like motorcycles with wet clutches (use 5%).
