first one I’ve ran across that says 40 and not 440

Really looks like a half-a$$ something stamped before the 7 too, maybe a T ??? Is it a cast crank engine (E)??

Maybe it's a big-bore? :poke:
 
He claimed it came out of a 75 imperial.
Short shaft trans, really?? That's weird... If you post up the VIN # (partial) on the lower pan rail, someone will be able to confirm the car it came out of (likely not me tho lol).
And, if you post up the PK # that's on the side of the transmission pan rail, we can reverse engineer that application too.
