Let's kick this dog one more time. The search has rendered up some information of retrofitting the later 63 and up tanks in regard to the size of the fill tube and the location of the sender unit and requirement to use the sender associated with the tank being used. My question to the members here with first hand information and even better, possibly one of these replacement tanks on the bench, can you take a minute and do a couple measurements? The 61 tank I am working with measures the 29 3/4 left to right, it also is the approximate 10 3/8 depth, what is different is the front to rear of the tank as it measures approx. 16 inches on the 61 tank compared to the 19 1/4 of the later tank. Now this could and could not be a problem depending on the distance from the front top of the tank to the circular cutout for the wheel well. This is the measurement I would like to know and is not shown in any ad for a replacement tank that I have sourced online. The 61 tank is approximately 10.5 inches at this point. Also at wheel well cutout is 6 3/8 inches from top of tank to the start of the angle. From top of tank to the press seam on the wheel well cut out is 8 5/8 inches. Given the above data, where will the extra 3 1/4" front to rear come into play on the retrofit. Many thanks for reading and appreciate any factual data anyone can shed on the tank.
