65 barracuda hubcap question

I have my original 65 Barracuda hubcaps and was beginning to clean the “frosted” areas with steel wool but then wondered if the “frosted” areas are just the way they were made. I know at least part of these hubcaps are supposed to have chrome showing but not sure if the entire wheel is supposed to. I am also aware that the inlays are painted black.

As you can see in the photos, there is chrome under the frosted areas that i was able to get to just with 0000 steel wool.

Mine appear to be frosted in some areas, and shiny on highlights,the black needs touching up.
Pretty sure that's how it's supposed to look.

Aren't the frosted areas painted in Argent (silver)? They also had some black detail as well.

Cuda Mike is correct. I have a boatload of those wheel covers and they are all the same. coated over the chrome in certain areas. You can mask that off and respray with argent wheel paint. I've seen it done and the results were nice.
