I have a 1967 Barracuda with a rebuilt 273cu. motor bored .30 over(might be in the low to mid 200hp), edelbrock intake, edelbrock performer 1406 carb, Comp Cams Hi-Tech 5/16 .500 push rods, Ultra Pro Mag rockers, Edelbrock Perf plus hydraulic cam and lifter kit(RPM range idle-5500), headman headers, 904 automatic, 7 1/4" rear end and 215/70/R14 Tires. Wondering what gears to use as this is a casual street cruiser and sometimes freeway. My research indicates 3:23's to be a good overall setup? I believe I have the stock 2:76's in now and at around 3000rpms I'm at 60mph. There is absolutely no launch off the start so I would like to get a little more off the line and not to have the car sound like it is going to blow up on the freeway. I was also told that a 2500 stall converter would also help but the gears right now would wake this engine up. Thanks in advance!

I run 3.23's in my Challenger, it just has a really mild 318 and 275/40/17 tires (25.6" tall). I swapped it over from 2.76's too. Better off the line, and not bad at all on the freeway. I can still cruise at 70mph on the freeway without any problems at all. I did lose a couple MPG's with the swap though.

Depending on how many freeway miles you do, you might even be able to run 3.55's. They'd be great around town, and on the freeway they'd be fine unless you were driving long distances (hours).

Most of my driving is street cruising 30-40mph at 1500/1800 rpm and maybe 1 to 2 hours on the Freeway and 60 to 70mph is plenty of speed without being annoying. I will try this fix and see if I need a stall converter afterwards? Thanks for your input!

If you can, look for a early a with a 170 as most of them had 3.23 standard. My 63 Valiant did. You should pull the 7 1/4 cover and find out what you have for sure. I pulled 2 rears,1 from a 64 225 Dart and one from a 67 Dart and they had 2.93 ratios. Just a thought..

That's curious, I run 3.55's in my rear and at 60 I'm turning about 2800 with a 26" tall tire.
