Code M83 on the fender tag for LL29 Demons stands for rear bumper guards. 0.1% (58) of LL29 Demons in 1971 got this option.

Code M81 was for front bumper guards. 0.2% (116) of LL29 Demons in 1971 got this option.

Code M85 was for both front and rear bumper guards. 9.6% (5096) of LL29 Demons in 1971 got this option.

The spacing of the guards on the bumpers are variable.

I know that '71-72 Demons are still disposable cars and people could give no craps about bumper guards, but maybe in the future someone may want this info to decode his fender tag or to make his car original again.

Above is a picture of the guards on my Demon. The original front bumper (and fender tag) was missing when I got it. This is a very low optioned car, so it would be a guess that this had either M83 or M85 option. But nothing is special about this car except for the color, so I'm guessing it was one of the 5096 Demons that had the M85 option, and not one of the 58 cars that got only back guards (M83)..

Any idea if the bumper guards may have been a dealer add on? I've got them on mine but no code on the fender tag. It's also very possible they were added on sometime later by a previous owner. I'd like to get a new front bumper but still on the fence about the guards.

I don't know. Hopefully a more seasoned A body guy will chime in.
