I have a 71 Duster I am working on and need a 71 specific painted gas cap, or a filler neck out of a 70 duster to use the earlier non vented cap.

Also need a clean front bumper filler that the grille mounts in - need one that is not rusted or bent.

Just FYI, I also have a '71 Plymouth I am putting together for my 17yr old son, and did not want to spend $150 for a gas cap. I was able to "re-work" an earlier model ('67-''70 ??) one to fit. I disassembled it and put the tab portion in my press (or vice), and with a piece of scrap steel, was able to "splay" out the inner tabs for a proper fit on the '71 neck. I then added a thicker seal, a thermostat gasket from a late model, by gluing to the original with trim adhesive. Took a little doing, but fits tight and the used cap I started with cost $5.

Thanks I solved my problem with a 72 and up cap and an old aftermarket cap I had on a power steering pump that I acquired and used the inner parts from that on the outer cap shell and it fits and works great. The aftermarket cap must have been for that style as it fit real good.
