My 72 dart has a hardbourd headliner. Is this factory? My Vin sequence is 516101,is this a late 72 car?I have found other things on the car that appear to be from 1973,seats,wiper arm bushings

72 was the changeover year from cloth to hard headliner in Dart. The changeover happened sometime later in the model year. I have a July '72 build date. My Dart had the factory hard headliner but retained the cloth headliner bow mounting holes in the roof structure. I put a cloth one in mine when I restored it.

What parts did you have to buy to change to a soft headliner?I don't have a build sheet,is your car built before mine?

First you need to check your roof structure for the holes that hold the bows. There should be 5 sets of 3 holes per side. If you have the holes, you need to get a headliner bow set, a headliner, and some sail panels

As far as build date, do you have the fender tag or the vin sticker from the driver door? My build date is found on the second row up and to the left of the order number.

No door sticker or fender tag.....only have the last 6 of the vin

Pretty sure they left the bow holes in. My 73 Scamp had them.
Mainly just need to round up a set of 71-2 bows. 70 and older are different.

I think they sell bow kits....as long as I don't need anything else?

They sell bow kits and sail panels. The sail panels go behind the headliner in the c-pillar to keep your hand from pushing the headliner into the roof structure

Is your rear window out? Be curious to know if you have the headliner “teeth” around your window. It grabs and anchors the headliner down. Mine did not have the teeth but the headliner was able
To be glued to the rear window frame instead.

I don't want to remove the rear window as the trim is in really good shape and I don't want to disturb it.The rear window has a big trim piece on the inside that should hold the headliner and we can remove the front glass at the other end

On another note I'm thinking this is a late 72 car as I'm finding 73 parts on it

I think you have to remove the front and rear windows to properly install a cloth headliner. If you are staying with cardboard, that wouldn’t be necessary

Can you share the last 6 of the Vin?

Is there any hardbourd headliners that look good and are reasonably easy to install?
