73 Dart 2-3 shift problem

Hey guys. A friend of mine called me last night and said that the trans in his 73 dart, slant 6 is giving him problems. He said that it shifts solid in all gears, no slipping, tight into reverse, but that it won't shift into 3rd until he gets it up to about 55 mph. He said 1st to 2nd is right where it always was.
Is there an adjustment to make on one of the bands or something? My dad and i rebuilt a 727 years ago, but i don't remember a whole lot about it.
Any ideas?

That's odd that it shifts correct into 2nd but is delayed going into 3rd. Only thing I can think to try is back off the throttle pressure (kickdown) linkage adjustment a turn at a time until he gets it shifting where he wants it.

BTW: has he serviced it and adjusted the bands lately? If not that'd be a good thing to do.
