how can you identify a rear end as 7.25, 8.25, or 8.75 inch. Im looking at buying a rear end out of a dart fourdoor for my duster. the rear end in the dart is not origional but is for an a-body. I know this because i used to own the car before it turned into a parts car. the dart got a new rear just before i bought it. I know that it is posi, (i remember both tires smoking when we power braked the 318 four door dart!), I THINK that it is a 8.25 inch rear but not sure. does anybody know how to find out for sure? did chrysler ever make a 7.25 inch rear with posi? any information would help, thanks

From what I've seen the 7.5 rear could be had with suregrip, but not common. Easy way to tell rear end if Mopar is if it has a removable cover over the centre section as viewed from the rear of the car then it is going to be a 7.5 or 8.25 as the 8.75 the whole centre section drops out of the case from the front. Generally, I count the bolts first. Although a 7.5 is listed as maybe having 10 bolts as well, most I've seen when looking to do a rear swap have only had 9 bolts. The cover on the 8.25 is large and ovalish with 10 bolts. I'll add a link to a few sites I've saved for reference when I was looking to do a swap.

Cheers
