A body 8&3/4 housing. aftermarket BBP axles. 5:57 742 pumpkin welded spiders for the stock car. they both lack an inch or so of going in all the way. I dont have seals in yet so not a problem there. what do you guys suggest I do next? thank you for your time. RR

#1 measure your axles so you know what you've got.

#2 i take it to mean that you're trying to install the axle and it's an inch from going in or seating fully?

Who knows what was done in there.

Pull the center section and see how much gap is between the ends of the axles, assuming they go in all the way with the center out.

alternately get a piece of 1/2 maybe 3/4" conduit and slide it in as far as it will go and measure

excellent info Dana. iirc the pumpkin was in a B or C body housing with axles installed so I would like to think there is no interference there. I will buy a length of conduit & I will holler back. RR

i'm getting the sense of déjà vu... didn't you previously have a whole kerfuffle over axles not fitting a housing previously? is this the same axles and housing?

You MIGHT be able to do the same with a tape measure and a flashlight

Buy a cheap light weight spool you won't have that issue. Also the less reciprocating weight will give you more torque off the turn.

OK, I measured both sides with a tape & though I'm sure there was a slight bow in the tape I would assume I got 25 &11/16" from the round flat(s) on all the way in on each side in the pumpkin out to the housing edge on both sides. these are dr diff A body BBP axles

Looks like you are 2 inches short ON EACH SIDE! or you did not get in all the way.

What do you get flange to flange on the housing

just got back, got 52 & 1/2" on the housing and 28 &1/16" on an axle with a tape hooked over the flange out to the end of the splined end
