8 3/4 questions

hey ya i was wondering what is the difference between the different 8 3/4 cases, ( ie. 741, 742)?? and how can you tell what it is?

741= 1-3/8 pinion, 742= 1-3/4 pinion, 489=1-7/8 pinion with a crush sleeve.
Numbers are the last 3 in the casting # on the left side of the third member.
