Hi All -

New to the forum. Attempting my first rebuild on a 904 (32RH) automatic transmission of my 1998 Jeep TJ.

I have two questions.
1. I bought a metal intermediate accumulator to replace my plastic one. However, the metal does not fit. I took measurements and it appears to be the same part, but will not easily fit into the bore. Is this normal for a new part?

2. When I took out the valve body, a ball bearing and spring fell out. Doing some research, I think it fell out from the “rooster” shifter. I guess my shift selector did not have a proper c-clip. Does that sound correct?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for responding to my previous posts. New metal accumulator without rings fit fine.

One more quick question. My new to me 1998 Jeep with 165K miles would do a hard (or quick shift) from 1st to 2nd gear (intermittently but frequently). Adjusted the front and rear bands, adjusted kick down cable, put in new fluid, and made sure it was to proper fill level. Still had the same problem.

As such, I assumed it was the actual transmission. (Also posted on Jeep forum and no one else had any ideas.). I am only about 1/3 thru the tear down, but the transmission looks pretty good so far. Is there something specific I should be looking for in the transmission that would have caused this? Could it simply have been a bad torque converter.

Thanks
