Hi, can any of you send me a link for a video showing how to exactly remove the speedo and replace the seal? I have a small leak. Can’t find a simple video on YouTube.. thanks!

Unscrew the cable ferrule.
Remove the clamp nut & clamp.
Remove the speedo drive, taking note of how it is clocked.

something there looks funky.

like they kludged together a pre 66 cable to a 66 and later housing and something else.

can you provide better pics?

Here’s a closer look. I have a slight problem with loosening the ferrule (round part) especially since the angle makes it hard to get some grip and I’m afraid to damage it.. tips?

Leave the ferrule attached & remove the assembly as a unit. Once out, you will have more space to work. If you squeeze too hard on the ferrule, you can make it out of round & harder to remove.

looks like somebody already moused the ferrule. you can try getting it with a pair of slip jaw pliers, or pull the whole assembly down. some fluid will slop out so be ready on that.

the housing has two seals: an outer o-ring and an inner where the cable rides. you can find kits online with the search query: mopar speedometer gear housing seal kit.

note that the assembly is clocked and uses the tangs on the hold down tab to index as well as secure it.

Thank you. Am I better off just replacing the assembly entirely? The speedo wire jiggles and fluid comes out.

the cable is supposed to have some free play within the housing, it drives the speedo so it needs to turn freely. the fluid is probably residual from it being pushed past the the seal into the jacket.

without being there and able to assess the condition of the parts i can't say. the seal kit is cheap and easy to do. or you could drop $50 bucks on a new one and whatever it is on a cable and knock out both.
