got a problem with a 91 dodge van with an A518 (350)

any way it takes a moment (a few min or so) for the transmission to engage once in gear after it sits over nite..
Kinda like the trans is empty on fluid..
but the fluid is full

could it be

The TC drain back/front pump?
a clogged filter?
VB problems?

or could it be something else?

If its the TC/drain back or front pump approx what would a shop charge to fix it?

thanks

Easy and cheap solution (if it is not losing fluid).....
Start in in neutral! The pump works a lot better in neutral.

thats what we is start it then put in N, the flter looks pretty good.. so im thinking its the drain back..

Look at the lines going forward to the tranny cooler. One of them has a drainback valve in it. These can (and do) go bad and may be the cause of the problem. If I remember correctly though MOPAR had a big recall on that year (actually 91-94) because of the exact problem you describe. Don't remember what the fix was though.

You can also buy valve body modification kits to allow full flow in park, instead of just neutral.
