A camshaft duration Dyno comparison (comp hyd. flat tappets) SBC

-
Reminds me of when I went from the 280 mopar cam to the 292 mopar cam. I have flat top KB107 pistons so compression is probably not so high for the 292. So on Crackedbacks advise I advanced it @ the crank 4°. It runs sweet from low to upper rpms.

Taking advice from that guy... you got stones... :)
Good to read the suggestion worked well.

What you had to do to get things to run back in the 80's aren't the same as what I would do today with affordable rollers or fast rate cams. Had to wind those 284 and 292 cams ahead (as far as 100ICL) in stock compression engines to get the pull started early. If you could afford a good converter back then, even better, those converters sucked compared to todays pieces. Stepping on the gas pedal was similar to stepping on a marshmellow. Soft, soggy... ugh

If I was limited to those cams selections, damn straight I'm putting it in ahead if converter limited on stock level compression engines.

@junkyardhero Would appreciate that I always suggested the 284 over the 292 for streeters. Most of the time the 292 was only better within 500 rpm of peak. Everywhere else the 284 was an equivalent or better choice.

Yes indeed! I went with a 9.5" FTI 3400-3600 stall converter. 3.91's out back do the combo good. Intake I went with a tried and true Victor 340 single plane. Car is a dart sport and runs pretty well.
