My stock alternator is getting noisy, and the current location has issues (top right of motor from the front, VERY limited range of travel to tighten belt). It appears the PO modified the waterpump housing to make it work at all, as seen in the pictures.

I am looking for a Denso alternator swap to lower left corner, possibly Chevy for ease of parts store availability, or Toyota for smaller size. I don't need more than 60 Amps but a larger output unit would be fine.

1) Are there any problems with a low mount alternator? Sticking electrical parts closer to water and road junk seems counter intuitive but it is frequently done.

2) What install kits/alternator combos have been used on a 440 with a motor plate mount with minimal issues? I have a single groove V-belt setup.

I don't know if this what your looking for. But it was a pretty easy to set up.

Shouldn’t that be on the RH side? IDK but both my BB trucks are on the RH.
