hi, i was wondering will a AMC Rear end fit in our mopar cars like a dodge dart, Plymouth scamp, dodge charger, ect?

also if it does fit what would be the other steps that i have to do to make everything compatible? Leaf springs, drive shaft, tire sizes, ect...

thanks everyone

I don't know much about AMC rearends but my Father-in-law has a 64 Rambler American and while working on it I measured the rearend and it was the exact same width of my 68 Cuda and had the same driveshaft offset and spring hanger center and had the large wheel bolt pattern. Shocks mounted up different but that's an easy solution since A-bodies shocks mount to the spring plates all you have to do is cut off the existing AMC hangers.

Depends on what AMC you are talking about. Alcoholics Making Cars didn't use a lot of their own stuff. They borrowed heavily from other auto makers. It's possible they used Mopar rear ends in some of their cars.

LMAO! :D Next time Pop gives me crap about my Mopar I'll have to wing that one past him.

Your exactly right about them using a lot of different parts. One year it might have a Mopar rearend and the next year a Ford or GM. Whoever gave them the best price that year got the nod.

I believe it is a AMC AMX 12 bolt rear end.

LOL alcoholics making cars - AMC I just got that

reason i ask is cause i seen a rear end in a junkyard for sale and he told me it came from a amc amx. i was thinking of getting it if it fits on any of my cars.

I might have been on an AMC forum. I missed a 69 Javelin in mint condition by 3 hours and bought my Dart a couple days later. Had I gotten the Javelin I wouldn't have gotten the Dart.

Doesn't the AMC rear ends have the hubs use a key way or splines and is held on with a nut?

I see the javelin body style and it looks like a 1970s ford mustang fastback. The javelin is a beauty of a car with a V8 and sure grip rear, i wounldn't mind having one nether. :D

Im guessing the rear would fit an a-body car like fishy68 said. im trying to think what would be the steps if i change my 7 3/4 rear out of a dart and add an amc rear- for example. haven't got the rear from the junkyard yet - trying to come up on a way to drag the thing home if the prices are right.

You are absolutely correct, those rears were weak compared to others of that time. If i'm choosing a rear to use today they would be one of my last choices, hubs with a nut and cotter key, i'm not goin' any were near that!
