okay im looking around on the internet and i cant find much on how to create a tilting front end for any car. all i get is about 3-4 sentences tops and i was hoping for alot of detailed drawings and pics

can anyone help me
thanks ahead of time

My 66 dart gt had a tilt front clip,I used the original bumper brakets and the front bolt holes were actually the hinges.I added a fabbed up radiator support that was stationary and made an inner structure of 3/4" box steel to strengthen it.the hood was pinned so it could be removed or you could leave it on and tilt the front clip.I cut thru the rear lower fender's and they were stationary and had pins for the inner structure to locate onto.this made tilting the front clip easy without having to spread the bottoms of the fenders or scratching paint.sorry I don't have more pic's.

cool man its okay you dont have more pics of it. im guessing hte bottome of the fenders being cut and left stationary is to keep from having to have the front pull forward before you tilt it up?

That was the idea and it worked good,I didn't have many examples of how people were doing the tilt thing so I cut the fenders and made braces from aluminum to keep them in alignment

Man, I would have liked to see that!
When I take Tammy's 66 apart I am going to take a closer look at that front end now.

Let us know if you find anything on this Crazybarracuda.

i have an idea on how to do this on my car but i need to see where i can mount the hinges. my idea would be a front end that pulls forward a few inches then tilt so i wouldnt have to cut the fenders. since im going to go with fiberglass hood and fenders (and that will be a ways out since the car is so rough i might just try fabricating the hinge assembly and test it with the original steel

the 67 dart i just bought has a tilt on it. he never finished it but its about 90% done. this one apparently will come forward then tilt. rad support is fabbed and stays stationary. i will take some pics later today when i get a chance

Crazy, I can't help you with any detailed drawings or pics but back in the mid-80's, I was working with a shop called Spectre Racing in Redwood City, CA. We threw around the idea of placing a tilt frontend on my '69 Barracuda and even had some preliminary rough sketches (which are long gone).

At that time, we were planning on welding together all of the frontend sheetmetal, eliminating the inner fenderwells and supporting the tower areas with some tube fabbing. Also, the plan was to utilize the slide track & tilt system off of a BMW (where after releasing it, the frontend would slide out approx. 3" and then tilt up). Let us know if you go ahead with your project.

On the a bodies it will need to slide forward a lil bit more than that and then it hits the tires and the worry of chipping or scratching paint will alway's be there.and the bottoms of the fenders will have to be spread open as you are tilting it to clear the cowl.on the us body website there is a good example of the cut fenders on the red chevy truck. My main goal when I did mine was to be able to do it easily and quickly without help or tearing up something and It was successful.also on my dart I had rocker moldings that I didnt want to cut that was just the choice I made and the reasoning behind it.hope fully this is helpful in deciding how to do your's.

good point on that. I think a good amount of work i could make a fully tilting fring end i have ideas to make it slide forward and then tilt up and make it so it cant close unless its pulled all the way out
