Anyone using coal slag media to sandblast?

-
So the residual dust from blasting is coal dust?

It would be a little explosive and hard on the lungs. I don't think it's that easy to get either.

What I was planning on trying. Their was a whole pallet in our local tractor supply.

Oklacarcollecto What is the price comparison between the slag and other sandblasting media?

I use the Black Diamond from tractor supply in my blast cabinet and in my open blaster.
$8.00 for 50 lbs.
This stuff cuts fast and is very aggressive.
After a while in the cabinet it starts emmiting alot of dust.
Use this material in a well ventilated area.
The good thing is it does not seem to absorb moisture like sand does.

I was checking to see if anyone had experience with it and their thoughts about it.
I have no idea cost comparison. I am working to find a location in Oklahoma that sells it because the freight would be a killer. On the show they said it was sharper, didn't take as much material, wouldn't damage metal and it was cheaper.

That is what I keyed in to.

I use black slag all of the time. I use glass beads in my cabinet but i have a big box outdoors to do big items in and use the coal slag for that. I like it really well.

My daughters went to school at OKC in Edmund and they wanted me to make them some holds for an artificial rock climbing wall. My daughter contacted a place called Restek and they fixed her up with a bag. It's been a few years but they may have it or at least be able to tell you where you can get it if you give 'em a call.

Same here 8.00 for 50 lb bag....I use in blast cabinet and doesn't absorb moisture from compressor like other media....It is very agressive though....they make a few different grits as marked on the bag but my local tractor supply seems to only carry one grit....even with pressure down it still mars the metal but it rips off rust and paint in a hurry....

Moisture resistant YES.
I just changed the media out in my cabinet last week, because it was turning to dust.
I put it in November of 2010 no moisture issues.
