Looking for paint suggestions for my ashtray, light silver of course like in the pic, what have others used with good success? Need something that I can buy in Canada, bringing an aerosol across the border is impossible unless you are a business.
Thanks FABO

You don't have spray paint in Canada ?
Nope, Trudeau outlawed them cause he didnt consider them "green".
LOL just kidding, of course we do, but it is against customs regulations to bring an aerosol across the border, it is considered a dangerous good. So any spray paint I go looking for has to be from a Canadian source, Ive tried bringing it across before and it just gets sent back to the sender.
Seeing it was originally plated... pick your poison.
True, but just looking for suggestions for a nice light silver spray bomb that lays down nicely and not all mottly.

Testors model paint has a chrome spray can. Also, you could go to a hobby store like Hobby Lobby or Michael's here in the US. They are bound to have at least a few choices of either chrome or stainless steel paint. I would buy a few and test spray them to see which looks best. Make sure the surface is lightly scuffed so the paint will stick properly. It will be just for looks. You will never be able to use it. In fact, I wouldn't even touch it. You will want to leave the paint as is. Don't try to spray clear on top of it. That will protect it, but you will lose the chrome-like luster. Some chrome paints recommend a base coat of gloss black. I have used them here and there with OK results.

You got to get rid of that guy!

Drill out the rivets.

Replace the tray

Get a proper rivet press

Reinstall rivets

Eastwood has paints that are plate like finish

Actually, you can ship spray paint from the USA but not by air. Ground shipping only.

I ordered 3 cans of Agate Grey from Geno's Garage in Georgia last year and had them shipped to me. Took almost 3 weeks to get it but, I am in Newfoundland and the shipment came by ground.

I painted them MP Argent silver, but it's discontinued now.

Chk Duplicolor line out, I'm freshening up our grill and going to use Duplicolor CDE1650.

Hey Steve,

Find a paint shop that makes aerosol spray bombs .

Bring in a part painted Argent silver and they will match it.

I had Argent silver made locally to redo my trunk mouldings and some argent silver trim parts.

Came out great!

Yeah, I had Napa($$$) make me up a few cans of spraypaint for 69 engine bay....well over $45-50 can.

Sounds about right.

I paid 35.00 a few years ago but, what do you do?

Reamed again!

I had to have the correct color.

Thanks Steve, that Duplicolor looks good, Ive narrowed it down to either the Duplicolor, or VHT aluminum General PDP Template

Thats good information to have! I guess I never specified in the past air or ground.

Speaking of ashtrays and paint, does anyone know the correct way to apply the colors? For instance, is the frame black or silver? Is the actual tray all black, or is it black with a silver ash receptacle?

If you’re looking for a close (exact?) match to argent silver, try Krylon metallic dull aluminium (1403). Not readily available in Canada so I bought a few cans and had them shipped to a place just south of the border and then drove down to pick them up. You’re not as close to the border as me so you may need to look for a ground shipment from either Montana or a North Dakota?

Bombed my rallye wheels with Krylon last year and, since I had some left over, also bombed my gas tank a few weeks ago. So far so good although I’m not expecting miracles for the gas tank over time.

As others have said, the fact the tray is plated might not make the refurbishment as durable.
