This was emailed to me, sounds like an interesting event for those around Detroit area.

I'm afraid I can't be there.

AMERICAN DREAMING
Detroit's Golden Age of Automotive Design 1946-1973

For every classic car we admire, there were artists who dreamed, designed, and drew that car with pencil or paint and paper.

Lawrence Tech University (LTU) is having an exhibition of 100 original automotive concept drawings in their gallery in the main entry building (Bldg A, aka the Architecture Bldg))

Hours are from Noon to 5 pm, ending this Saturday, May 2.

It is free and open to the public

The best time to go will be tonight, Wednesday, April 29th -
It's the only time it will be open in the evening until around 9 pm.

PANEL DISCUSSION TONIGHT from 7 pm to 8 pm in the Architecture Auditorium (A200)
so the gallery hours will be extended tonight (only) until around 9 pm

Keith Nagara, director of LTU's Transportation Design program, will lead a panel discussion with iconic automotive designers and art historians about the art of the automotive industry and its place in American art history.

If you are an automotive design enthusiast, you probably know that cars used to be hand-drawn artwork on paper or vellum... but those days are now gone - replaced by computer screen files. Unbelievably, most of the old drawings were tossed out over the years - considered to be of little value... yet some designers managed to retain some of their works of art and they are now becoming a highly sought, rare collectible, bringing serious money if you can find any retired designers willing to part with theirs...

The Panel Discussion includes Bill Porter - former head of both Buick and Pontiac studios at General Motors. Bill worked at GM during the Harley Earl era, later reporting directly to Bill Mitchell.

Other panelists include:

Bill Robinson - Chrysler, Frazier, Briggs, Cord
John Samson - Studebaker & Ford... Worked with Bob Bourke on the '55 T-Bird
Ken Myers - Head of American Art at the Detroit Institute of Art
Matt Anderson - Henry Ford Museum's Curator of Transportation Design
Keith Nagara - LTU's Director of Transportation Design

This exhibit of original automotive concept art is organized by the producers (Robert Edwards & Greg Salustra) of a documentary film, "American Dreaming" scheduled to be released in 2016.

The artworks for this exhibition are on loan from private collections nationwide.

If you cannot make it for the Panel Discussion tonight, at least try to get over to LTU to view the gallery of 100 works which are only up through this Saturday, May 2nd.

Lawrence Tech is a good engineering school. I know a few who graduated from there...
