Axle seal questions

Some questions regarding inner axle seals. Replacing seals on a 1971 Demon with an 8 1/4 rear. Had to use a brass drift to remove the pin in the differential. Hopefully easier getting it back in. Should I pack the seals with grease before I install them as I have heard from various sources? The 71 Service manual makes no mention of doing this. The inner wheel bearings are behind (closer to the pumpkin) the seals in this housing and are obviously lubed with the axle oil from the banjo. Would like to know before I screw it up. Appreciate some advice from experienced Mopar guys. Thanks.

I always pack the seals with grease. If u had to hammer out the pin u will have to clean and inspect the pin and the gears it goes thru. U may be able to make them work but more than likely have to replace them. U did take the bolt out that holds the pin in?

Yes. Bolt removed. The pin would not move by hand. Required light tapping halfway out. Then I put a bolt through the hole and twisted it out by hand. Hard to believe there would be damage but I will look. I'm worried about getting it back in. So the grease I applied to the cavity of the seal will not interfere with the bearings right behind it?

Why would you pack the inner axle seal with grease? 7 1/4 or 8 3/4? What inner axle bearing/seal by the banjo? There's no seal there that I know of. Or, well, I'm kinda lost on this one.

Not by the banjo, bearings are right behind the seal TOWARD the banjo.

No it won’t be a problem.
