Backing plate swap

If I change the backing plate, drums, and hardware on an 8 3/4, will it change the axle width? Reason: The drums are hard to get on my truck project and I was going to switch to CBody stuff. I only have about 1inch between the tire and the spring and didn't want to cause more issues. Any advice before I go this route? Craig

Think about that for a minute.
The wheel mounting surface doesn't change, so how could it be a different width?
Maybe if you swapped axles it could end up slightly different.

It's not that we don't think sometimes.
I can think something through 10 times and still miss something pretty obvious, and the older I get the more it seems to happen.
