Hi,

Looking to swap my 3 spd 727 out of my 72 duster. I would ideally like a 5 speed manual, but would deal with a 4 speed auto too.

Please ive some advice on an economical option.

All I can find is modern drivelines conversions that are 3k + ://

Thanks!

You can put a GM 200R4 in your car and you don't have to do tranny tunnel surgery.

Economical A-body 5 speed and/or auto od is an oxymoron.....

Depends on your definition. I wish I knew what I know now about the 42RH swap or I would have done it before sinking the same amount of money into my a904. The 42RH/A500 is one of, if not 'the' cheapest way to get OD behind a Small block into our a-bodies especially if you aren't afraid of a welder.

$5-800 is a good ballpark if you want to rebuild it. If you want to cowboy it: Pick-n-pull, $120 for core, $20 in 3/8 Line, $20 in steel to fab a cross member, $60 in fluid, and a couple toggle switches. Boom. Done.
