Hey all, it's been almost three months since I made an update on my 400 powered 1974 Plymouth Scamp drag car project. I've been working on it between other projects and finally got it to idle. Man, does it sound good. I made a full length YouTube video about my progress. I hope you all enjoy.

Awesome, I've never heard my engine run in my car yet. I'm still building the car and going for a 3rd rendition of the engine... which is why the car isn't done yet.

I was super happy to hear the car run. Just four months ago I was filling the cylinders with oil to try to unstuck the dang thing. Apparently it worked.

That's very cool, I'm glad that worked.
I have a 400 here I'm going to probably have to cut the damn crank In 5 pieces to get it unstuck .

Believe me, I was happy to hear it sound so hellacious. It's too bad the heads haven't even been port matched. They're bone stock 452's.
That's a decent casting, though even as is. I've seen people say they are "a little" better than the 906 somehow. They have hardened exhaust seats so that's one way. I THINK it's that they have the same basic intake port as the 906 but the exhaust port is a little better. A big block A body would be cool runnin on seven cylinders so there's that. LOL

I really just need the ports in the head to not be smaller than the ports in the intake. :)

I've got a set of 516 heads that'll give me a good bump in compression. This car will always have leaded race gas, so hardened seats won't be necessary. I'm no stranger to porting cylinder heads, so I'll have fun.

The 452s are better than the 516s. They will outflow them comin and goin. I wouldn't worry with compression. With a good ignition timing curve, you can work around all that.

Fair, the flow numbers I keep seeing online make me want to mess with the 906 heads I have lying around. They're a bare set, so I have plenty of opportunity to work them over.

Trust me. It's splittin hairs. In fact, it might be splittin a split hair. You're readin the wrong stuff, I promise. You have some decent heads now.

I get what you mean. It's just that I have the 906 heads already disassembled and ready to be worked. I can get those heads ported and ready while my car is still together. This is intended to be a drag car, so every bit of performance I can gain I will chase.

Well before you do all that, compare the cost of having those worked to some new aluminum heads. Good luck with it and keep us posted!

prague/keokuk area?

I was looking at places in Shwanee/Bethel

Like it there except the Naders.

Keep at it with the car and have fun!

I'm actually currently at work in Shawnee. I'm about to start working on the ambulance in Holdenville, though. It's a little closer to me being that I'm in Seminole.

I just moved to Tulsa….
Plan on checking out Tulsa Raceway Park soon….
I haven't been there since before I was driving. Thunder Valley Raceway Park is about 25 miles closer to me. I remember it being an awesome place, though. The stands are huge compared to TVRP. They hold big events at Tulsa, so the tracks got to be sweet.

Rocky Mountain race week starts this weekend here at Tulsa Raceway Park, I plan on checking it out Sunday, which is the first day of competition. Me and my buddies in Dallas used to go to the Texas Motorplex whenever the Drag and Drive events came through there.

A couple of my buddies will be racing there. Both are running LS swapped cars with power adders. One is a turbo 68 Camaro and the other a nitrous 72? Malibu. They were at the drag strip when I went a few weeks back with my 71 Satellite. I wish I could go, but the last this weekend is my last weekend at the current job.
