Just got hold of a set of bumper brackets for my Barracuda, at the moment the bumper is held on by the 2 stabilisers and a diy aluminium number plate bracket, don’t ask why, previous owner!
I’ll find out soon enough I guess when I squeeze myself under and have a look, but it’s dark at the moment and I’m nice and warm in front of the fire, does anyone know are the bracket to chassis bolts tapped into the chassis, or are are they bolt through with nuts and washers? I only ask as looking at the service manual the illustration does not show nuts and washers, just the bolts. Hope they’re not tapped, I live in the UK where we drink pints, inch forward into traffic and I’m 6 feet tall but our nits and bolts are metric.

our nits and bolts are metric.
Well, that's a step up from Whitworth!
Seriously, they're 1/2-13NC, at least the ones on my Dart are (in the front, that is). And yes, the nuts are welded inside of the subframe, at least US assembled cars are; Euro-built cars are anybody's guess.

So what you are saying is you all are not that well endowed. Your NITS and BOLTS are much smaller where you are from.

Thank you, and I guess they’re a tapered end?

Front or rear? Front should have large toothed washers built on.
Front, shoulder have said. Bloody auto correct again meant should have said! Any idea on length would 1.25” work?

Thanks that’s helpful, sadly if I buy those from the States the shipping and UK taxes triple the price, I bought a set of used bumper brackets for $75 by the time they arrived at my door they’d cost me about $230!

I’ll source some serrated head bolts here and see if I can get away without the taper. I could grind a taper but then of course they’ll rust quicker.

The penny just dropped, they’re thread forming bolts hence the taper, so hopefully a straight bolt will be fine.

Well I sourced some stainless 1/2 unc bolts, annoyingly the flanged serrated bolts are a bit to small diameter in the flange, so I opted for normal hex heads with a larger washer and a serrated lock washer, I’ll see how that goes. I have now noticed that the previous owner hasn’t actually used stabilser brackets at the corners instead he’s just used a threaded tubular spacer, so the bumper isn’t located correctly anyway. I think I will look at fabricating some stabilisers in 1/8 x 1 1/2 aluminium strip, hopefully strong enough to add some support but will bend before the fender does. I’ll have to bend them to fit in situ as don’t have an original to copy.
