can i put a better gear in this ?

Yes, you can swap the gears if you can find them. Back in the day they were available with 3.23s, 3.55s, and 3.91s. It is still a 7 1/4" rear though. They weren't known for durability. The only one I have ever seen live very long was a 3.91 Sure Grip and it was behind a slant. The early Dakotas used this rear and may be a source of gears. The aftermarket is pretty much a dry hole. There are a few listings but little availability. Your next step up would be an 8 1/4" rear but if you get one of those with a 2.45 ratio you will need to swap the carrier to swap in steeper gears.
