Complaint about Hurst Pro Matic 2

Well, not really a complaint, just a solution to an annoying issue.

Recently I bought one of these shifters from a member and am really happy with it.
One thing I couldn't stand though was the detent spring in the mechanism made an annoying "PING" sound every time I changed gears.
I used a piece of a rag about the size of a marble, greased it a little and pushed it inside the spring coils.
The grease will keep it from coming out of the spring, and the ping sound from the spring is gone.

I wonder why? I have the same shifter and have never noticed it. Now when I shift I'll probably hear it, LOL.

The click is fine and that's what it does now, it's the "BOING!" I could'nt deal with.

funny, i have that shifter and I haven't heard that noise that I can remember
