convertible top question?

Hey all I just tore off my old top and going through and inspecting and fixing rust issues on the top frame. One question that do have is the substance that the staples nail into on the top frame it is like a rubbery leathery type substance is that stuff available somewhere? Can you buy that stuff somewhere? Mine is brittle on the corners where the staples go. any help on this would be great Thanks

From what Ive been told it isn't available. No idea what to use...sorry. Hopefully I will get to the stage yer at....
 
Its called a tack strip and when I replaced my top about 10 years ago it came with the new top. I got mine from year one. Good luck with the install.
 
My upholstery guy said that he has to replace those on most of the tops he installs. He must be able to get it somewhere....if it doesn't come with the top.
 
Thanks for all the replies I was able to find it at year one it is called tack strip and my next place I was going to check was my upholstery guy.

The guy that put my top on told me he uses BONDO in the tack strip

He puts on a lot of tops and knows what he is doing
