Did these come in vans in the late 70's? I found a Dodge van in the scrapyard, tail light lens says it's a 78'. It has a 4bbl small block and it looks stretched with four big "panoramic" windows down each side. The rear end is fairly low to the ground so I really can't get a good look yet but I think it has a Dana in it. I'm gonna get the guy to lift the rear with a fork lift so I can get a better look next time I go. If it is, is this worth getting? What should I pay for one of these?

inmo a dana is worth 100 bucks or so in a junkyard. i bought one a few months back for 150, but i messed up and didnt get one with a posi. which cost me another 190 used. so if you find one with the right ratio and posi for around 100 maybe 150 get it.

Thanks 74fldart. I just wasn't sure they put Danas in vans. I can't remember if I saw a pinion snubber or not, but it is a truck set up with the perches on top. I'll try and get back there sometime this week. The van also had a trailer hitch on it, so maybe it even has a suregrip and good set of towing gears :-D

If you look under most 15 passenger church vans they had 9.25 axles with 3.90 gears but I haven't seen one with a sure grip though. Just a thought.

So is this worth getting or not? Converting it to our a-body could get expensive and I already have enough rusted iron sitting around now :-D

If you have the equipment and can make the mods yourself I would say go for it, if you had to pay someone and also depending on what your building then I would suggest buying an 8 3/4 or 8 1/4. It could get costly with the fab and machine work!
