This is typical of our local newspaper. Is it a truck, is it a Dart? ...they don't sweat the details when reporting anymore.
Redding police say a man who was hit by a truck early this morning on Victor Avenue was at fault in the collision because he jaywalked, but the driver still was evaluated and arrested on suspicion of driving while high on marijuana.
Officer Jacob Provencio said the crash happened about 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Hartnell Avenue. When officers got there, Provencio said, Timothy A. Lindsay, 27, was lying in the southbound lanes of Victor, injured.
Provencio said officers determined that Lindsay and two friends were drinking at the Hen House earlier in the evening and then crossed Victor while walking westbound on Hartnell without using a crosswalk and while the signal for oncoming traffic was green.
That's when Devin J. Beuoy, 18, of Redding, hit Lindsay with his 1965 Dodge Dart, Provencio said.
Provencio said Lindsay was "extremely intoxicated" and taken to Mercy Medical Center for a contusion to his head, pain and a general evaluation.
Meanwhile, Beuoy admitted to smoking marijuana recreationally on his break at work and after work, Provencio said, and officers determined he was still unable to safely operate a vehicle at the time of the crash.
They also found marijuana, concentrated cannabis and a smoking pipe in the truck and on him, Provencio said.
Beuoy was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs and felony possession of concentrated cannabis. However, he was not charged with DUI causing injury because Lindsay was determined to be at fault in the crash, Provencio said.
One of Lindsay's friends, Miles T. Pollard, 22, of Anderson, was also arrested in connection with the incident because he was intoxicate and disruptive at the scene, Provencio said. Pollard was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
