differences in Duster 340 side stripes

Question? Why do I see the large tilted '340' connected to the stripe on some stripe kits? My 1972 Duster 340 came from the factory with the '340' NOT touching the stripe, bit a good 1/4" below thje bottom pin stripe. But I see many Dusters with the '340' connected to the stripe itself. Was there a change in this, and when was that made? Thanks for any insight on this. Terry.

just a guess but the stripes were put on by hand originally. i would guess alot of what you are talking about would be the installers take on the location. i have seen both on the pinstripe and off. my gut would be that it was intended to be off the pinstripe and not attached.

I think that it was a 71 - 72 kinda thing. I've seen more 71's with the connected stripe. But ... I just bought a set of red stripes for my duster (72) on ebay and they're the connected kind. Couldn't pass them up for the price ($32).
