Distributor Module ???

I run a Mallory magnetic breakerless and wondering if my rich idle is being caused by a faulty module. Long story short......I left the ignition in the on position and boiled up the coil. Since then I have replaced the coil and the cars runs pretty well when warmed up but has a slight hesitation and smells very rich. I have dialed in the idle screws on the carb but still runs rich.

I know this could be many things here but my question is ..... Do you think I damaged the module when the coil fried and it is affecting intial timing which in affect is causing a rich idle condition????
 
If the module is bad it probably wouldn't run at all or would run fine at low rpm and cut out at high rpm. Sounds like a carb issue to me but of course make sure your initial timing is up to snuff first. What is your engine build specs and what is the initial timing and total timing at? Do you have the proper power valve in the carb to match the idle vacuum?

I need to check the timing but it is supposed to be 35 total. These modules are supposed to be good or bad but I have actually had one before that got fried and lthought the car was running but bench tested with errors. I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem. I am thinking that I should get rid of the ballast riesistor and go to a CD box.
The carb was working great until I fried the coil. I thought maybe I blew the PV on carb but the idle screws are adjusting so I think the valve is OK. I think my problem is timing or distributor related. It's symptoms are like a slight vaccum leak.
