I'm have a philosophical conundrum. I'm building a 74 Scamp into a lightweight drag car. It has the original doors with the crash bars. I was wondering if it would be worth my while to install a 67-72 door or if I should just cut up the originals. For some reason, I'm having a hard time with the decision to whip out the grinder and cutoff wheels on this poor, unmolested door.

I do have a lead on the earlier doors, so availability is no matter. Cost, now that's an unknown. The donor car has been sitting with no suspension for years now. On top of that, the guy sold it years ago and it never left, so I bet he'd let the doors go for cheap.

‘67 - ‘72 Dart Duster Valiant 2 door hardtop all the same doors and lighter ones Han the ‘73 - ‘76 door get them with only the latching mechanism install so Lexan windows-go racing.

If it's going to be a race only car, do away with the glass and install fixed plexiglass, or polycarbonate windows, let you wallet be your guide.

I don't know much about racing. I do know that less weight = more speed. I would think that if you took the door skin off, you could take off the crash bars and then remove whatever else you could get away with for very little expense. R&R door skins is not very difficult. That would be a lot cheaper than buying two new doors.
Here is my question. If you were able to swap out to a different door and save a few pounds over doing surgery on your current door, would those few pounds really make a difference? I know that shaving a lot of weight is really good, but at what point is it not worth a big expense or a lot of work to save a few pounds. This is a serious question. I am really good at body, paint mechanical, etc., but I don't know much about serious racing.
Thanks.
