the backing plate wont fall inside the jamb if i take bolt out will it?the rubber is gone that cushions the sleeve and i want to address it.

Should not as there is a retaining flange welded to the frame that holds the square nut.
Now if it was broken or rusted then you may be taking off your door panels.
