I've been searching threads for this answer but can't find it, so...
Would there be any advantage to a dual snorkel air cleaner vs. the original single snorkel on a 318 2 bbl?

Probably not. The way to evaluate it scientifically would be to compare the cross-sectional area of the snorkel with the area of the carb throat. Sol one as it is roughly the same, the dual snorkel would not have any noticeable effect, and might even slow the velocity of the incoming air.

Is there even a dual-snorkel air cleaner that has a 2bbl-sized base hole?

Apparently, yes. The car came with this one on it, but I wanted an original one and a member here had one in black off a '74 dart. $0.00 plus shipping. Had it powder-coated orange. I've been switching them out back and forth, but can't really notice any difference while driving.

I seriously doubt it will make any difference on a 318.
Engine masters did a terrific test of aircleaners. One tested was a dual snorkel with one blocked off, vs both open. It made a significant difference...... on a 600 hp bbc.
They rated how much horsepower they thought each would.feed before the air cleaner would become a restriction. The single would be fine to 300 hp, according to EM.

Thank you! That is some good info.

The reason I asked is this car had one on from a big block and we needed to cut the inner to get the hood to close. Big blocks sit taller. Its not the intake because we also have 340 air cleaners and the fit. And other 340 cars with this same intake and no issue.

Yeah, the air cleaner on mine was def from a 2-bbl carb. Lower profile, and fits fine. I have a 340 intake and 4 bbl carb off a '70's Dart that I was considering putting on my 318, but I think I might be creating more issues for myself...
