Hey everyone,

I have been banging my head against a wall all day today and was hoping someone here could help me out. My son and I are involved in a Duster project. Its a '73 that originally had a slant 6. Someone removed that and installed a '85 318 on the old 6 K-frame.

My son and I acquired a SB '70 (biscuit style mounts) K-frame from another A-Bodies member. We stripped, painted it then installed it along with a front disc package from a donor Duster.

Today we tried dropping the motor back in and its been a real pain. Nothing seems to line up. The motor is too far to the driver side and hits the steering box, the motor isn't level, and its not straight in the motor compartment/tunnel (see pic links).

We believe we have the correct metal brackets and the biscuits are new. What do you think?

Another question we have is about the biscuits...are the nubs on one side of the biscuit suppose to line up with the extra holes on the metal brackets? Or do you just rotate the biscuit around till you get close to proper alignment?

Any advice you could give my son and I would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to see some pics from other Dusters with biscuits if you have some.

Thanks!

Chris

Well, I can tell you one thing for sure. the biscuits are in wrong. they need to be rotated 90 degrees, also, I am not sure if that is the correct mount for the passenger side. it looks wrong. now i'll have to go look at mine so I can tell what is going on here.
That mount on the pass side should not be that tall if I recall. It almost looks like a truck mount!

Yes the biscuits are in 90* off. The way it's currently installed, the engine is too high and too far forward.

You have the studs in the correct hole in your mount brackets. Spin the biscuit so the stud that enters the k-frame is close in alignment with the second hole in your mount bracket. Pass side looking from bottom spin it from the 9 o'clock to 12 position. The other is 3 o'clock to 12. the biscuit studs go in the vertical plane, not horizontal. There should be an alignment bump on the biscuit that lines up with that secondary hole in your engine bracket.

The brackets look correct as long as that's a /6 K frame. If it's a V8 K frame, that pass side bracket is not correct.

I know this has solid mounts but they are the same set up from a stud standpoint.

Cracked, Thanks for the pics. They clarified our problem. The metal bracket on the pass side was incorrect. We found the right one in our pile of spare parts that we recently purchased and now the engine sits correctly. We've also installed some thicker biscuits we bought from Summit to help us with header clearance issues.

Thanks for the feedback Cracked and Omaha.
