Hi Folks

Has anyone ever dyed a Tuff steering wheel. If so, what did you use, how did it turn out, and were you happy with long term results and performance?

Got my dash in, and now the original wheel that I thought would be a good driver looks like crap (too light)
:(

I used vinyl “paint” on my buddy seat that is leather, it was removed from a 06 Ram then installed on my 56 Dodge. One season on it but two years since I did it and I’m happy with it . Should work well on steering wheel you might have to re~paint every now and then.

It looks pretty close to the dash pad.

Have you tried cleaning it real good?

How is the finish?

The can vary from slick, to porous foam.

I guess the stuff doesn't look too bad for 50 years old. I tried cleaning the dash, but the dark black didn't come back. What would you recommend for a good cleaning product for both? Maybe I shouldn't have powder coated the dash frame.

The wheel sure doesn't feel like foam.

The only thing I would be concerned about with dyeing it, would be the dye coming out and transferring over to your hands when you are driving. Ive used lots of vinyl dye with no issues before, but never on a steering wheel. Maybe another member has some experience with this?
As for the dash pad, if it didnt come back as black as you would like it, you can always redye it as well, but of course you would have to take it back out. Ugh.

I have used vinyl spray (Marhyde or SEM?) on my dash pad but have no idea whether it would work on a Tuff wheel. There is also the wipe on vinyl and leather dyes (LuxuryLeatherRepair).

I think it was Marhyde that we used to use in the shop, dont know if they still make the dye or not.

This is what Ive been using for a long time on all my vehicles, Ive bought it at my local GM dealer, but they have stopped carrying it, so now I have to find another supplier. Both products work really well, the white dressing is for vinyl, plastic, rubber, and the leather cleaner puts that leather smell back into whatever you are using it on.

@CFD244 I just bought a new(used) dash pad today and I used Doc Baileys leather Black on it and it came out beautiful. Ive used the product on leather jackets, chaps and boots for years to protect and condition with great results, so I thought Id try it on the dash since it can also be used on vinyl. It not only cleans and conditions, but it also has a dye in it to recolor whatever you are using it on.
I did two applications, waiting an hour after applying each one before wiping off and am very pleased with how it came out.
Word of advice, wear latex gloves when using it, you dont want your hands turning black :)
