What do you guys think about the Edelbrock 2176 intake. I am thinking about putting one on. I sure see many of them for sale. It make me wonder why. Any comments. Thanks
Dave

Edelbrock Performer, small block. It's a good manifold. You didn't give us any details on your engine, but I'm assuming it's a stock 273. It's a good manifold for a 318 or 360 with minor mods, but not sure how it's going to work on your 273. Hopefully, another member can chime in here.

If I'm not mistaken don't 273's have a different manifold bolt angle than 318/340/360 ?

My engine is a 273 bored .040, 224/468 mechanical cam with a edelbrock 4 brl. I ported and polished the heads. It runs really strong. No, the 273 has the same bolt pattern, the 66 273 had a different bolt pattern. I currently have a 71 340 intake but requires a spacer. One of the problems with the spacer on the manifold is that the hood won't sit flat and is tearing up my hood insulation. With all that I have read on modern technology, the newer intake manifolds give you much better performance than the older cast iron. Of course edelbrocks opinion is; I will much better performance. That is why I am asking for your opinions. Thanks

Thanks for the clarification.Didn't want to diseminate false information just trying to be helpful and improve My own knowledge at the same time.Joe

Are you talking about a carb spacer?

Thanks for passing the measurements on. Yes, I am talking about the carb spacer. It really makes a difference in the height under the hood. The 71 340 intake thats on my 273 is a spread bore and the carb is not and requires a spacer. When I originally put the engine together, I was told by a supposed expert on Chrysler engines, that the 340 intake would really do a bang up job on performance on my 273. I did confirm with edelbrock tech that the 2176 intake will work on the 67 273. I am not sure that changing out the intake will make any significant difference but it will lower the height of the carb to some extent. Also, it seems that the fuel will have a smoother path from the intake since the ports on the 2176 are a little smaller then the ports on my 340 intake, casting #3512100. Sorry I babbled on. I really appreciate all your comments. If you have any more I will take them also. Thanks

Dave

The advantage to the 2176 Performer will be more or less weight loss. That and a slightly cooler fuel charge because the intake is aluminum. The stock Mopar 4bbl intakes worked well for stock pieces. I am guessing maybe 5hp over stock if that? If I already one laying there, I'd bolt it on. Been there done that many times...

I believe '64 and '65 had the different bolt pattern for the 273 IIRC...??

What you might gain is velocity, since the 340 intake is made for 340 sized intake ports and the Performer for 318 size. So you'd have a better port match, unless you opened up the 273 heads to 340 size.

Put the Performer on. Should be a better all-around intake for your car.
Put a narrow heat insulator gasket on for the carb, and a drop down air-cleaner and your good.

What do you mean drop down air-cleaner. I currently have a Mopar Performance (aluminum/black). Thanks

Dave

Dave,
Sometimes you can run into hood clearance issues, once you start running carb spacers ect. A drop down base air-cleaner lowers the height, so you can close the hood.

The Performer sits pretty low, so hopefully you wont have any issues.

Thanks Johnny Dart.

I also had forgotten that my 273 heads were milled, not sure but I think .050 to bring my compression to 9.5 to 9.7. I can't use gaskets so I called a tech at Permatix and they suggested that if I need to seal without gaskets to use-The Right Stuff (black). To protect themselves, however they recommend the use of gaskets. Since edelbrock 2176 intake torques to only 25 ft lbs Permatix said that it would probably be fine. I used Permatix when I originally put the engine together 2 years ago and no problems yet. I will say however, that for a small engine it has a lot of get up and go. I also put a shift kit in my 904 and it really makes a big difference. I also took out the accumulator spring in the trans to help shifting. I am running 2 1/4 " ehhaust X pipe. I probably should have gone with 2" , but what the heck. I switched a guy my 255 for a 323 8 3/4. The 355 seemed to be a bit much for that small engine but the 323 is really great. I also rebuilt a Borg Warner Spin Resistant sure-Grip that was given to me. I have a lot of fun driving my Dart. I don't get o iot much but sometimes temptation is just too much. No bad for a guy 69 huh? Thanks again.
