OK. Slant six is gone and 318 in and running this week. 318 has been bored .060 Edelbrock intake and carb. MP cam 4452761 450/455 double roller timing chain that I think I set up 4degrees advance to dial in the cam. (help/advise from my local engine builder.my first V8 rebuild) fired right up.. :newb:

Timed it by ear at first to get it to run ok. I then put my timing light on it with vacuum adv. off and pluged (also on) I can't seem to get timing mark on the pulley to come in range. seems to be quite a bit before tdc. So to get to my question where should my timing mark be,do things change with these mods.? I am still using orig. Distribuator with pertronix mods. and seems to be running Great..

Thoughts???

If you see something that doesn't look right let me have it. I would rather know now. :violent1: No comments on the purple wires and yellow boots.:D You would have to be a NC ECU Pirate to understand..

you could hillbilly timing tape the balancer

Put timing mark at 10 BTDC on cover, put a mark on damper at 5 atdc, then roll the mark you just made to 10 BTDC on cover, put another mark at 5 atdc. Now you have timing marks at 0, 15 BTDC and 30 BTDC.

I'd time the car to about 15 BTDC initial and then see what your total number is, keep revving it up until it stops advancing, the 30 BTDC mark will come in handy! you may have to adjust the mechanical advance to get a reasonable total number before vacuum advance, if any.
