All,

Is there a way to identify which car a given engine came out of? I have a 2bbl 1973 318, and want to know what it came out of. The seller says it came out of a Cuda, but he doesn't know if it's the original, and I want to know.

The numbers I have found on the engine so far are: On the passenger side, above the oil pan: 3B3 5133. On the driver's side: 608080 31830. If there is a good website I should look at for this info, please let me know. I tried the VIN decoder at the top of the page, but got errors regardless what I tried-Chrysler, Dodge, or Plymouth.

Thanks for your help!

Jon

The VIN decoder didn't work because that's not the whole VIN. The B means it was made at the Hamtrack plant. Just curious, but why does it matter what it came out of? A '73 'Cuda and a '73 Coronet four door had the exact same 318 so I wouldn't think it would matter. Unless you are meaning you want to know if it is numbers matching for your car?

I'm forced to sell it in order to pay for repair parts to the slant 6, and guys keep wanting to know what it's out of. I'd like to be able to say for certain, "Oh, it came out of (likely a Volare, Aspen, Valiant, Dart)" in an authoratative, Ron L. Howard-like booming voice. "I don't know" is such an unsettling sound from a seller, right?

Huh. Checked the VIN on the engine, which was wrong, and best I can get out of the decoder is 6-passenger wagon. Everything else comes up invalid. Is this normal?

3- Model year, 1973.

B - Hamtramck plant.

For 1973 Hamtramck made Challengers, Barracudas, Dusters, Darts & Dart Sports.
