It appears that Plymouth had earlier plans to build a 1967 Plymouth
Barracuda 383 for SS/D or SS/DA for the 1967 NHRA Super Stock Class.

In 1967 NHRA expanded the Super Stock classes SS/A thru SS/E.

Found documentation indicates that the Plymouth Racing Division had
intentions of building '75' 1967 Plymouth Barracuda 'Fastbacks' with a
Super Stock 383 rated at 365 Horsepower.

The #3202 lb. Fastback with the 383/365 HP would fall into the
SS/D or SS/DA weight bracket (8.70 - 9.49 Wt/Hp) with a factor of 8.77 Wt/Hp.

Once the NHRA released their 1967 Stock Class Factors
* A/S.... 8.70 - 9.49 Wt/Hp

Plymouth had a change of plans, and had intentions of building an A/S or A/SA car instead.

Was to be available with either a 4-Speed or B & M 'tricked' Automatic.

Waiting for complete documentation to be forwarded.

LOL 365hp 383 in super stock trim? That has to be a typo.. that's 30hp more than the stock rating.. a cam, ported stock 906 heads, and single plane intake/Holley 750 would net more than that...

Wow! That would've been nice to see!

zac F71,

It is not a 'typo',

Here is what was tested,

1967 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback {3202 lbs.}

* 383 Engine, {1967 Super/Stock 'D' 383 Package, rated at 365 Horsepower}

A) 12.5 - 1 Compression Ratio {TRW 'L-Series' Forged Pistons}
B) #2780915 {67' 440 Hi-Po} Cylinder Heads {2.08" intake / 1.74" Exhaust}
C) #STR-15 Cross-Ram Intake Manifold
D) Twin 'Holley' #R1849 #4160 Series {550 CFM} Carburetors {1.50" Primary / 1.50" Secondary}
E) Hooker 'custom-fabricated under-chassis' Headers {trunk installed}

Note; Since any 'flat-tappet' {solid} Camshaft could be utilized for Super Stock,
the Super Stock car would leave the factory with a 'moderate lift' solid lifter
camshaft and 'Adjustable Rocker Arms'

The 'factory prepped' Barracuda, would have the radio, heater and sound proofing
deleted.

Chrysler 8 3/4" Rears, with 4.86 Gears. Standard width rear-end housing, with 4" bolt pattern.

Front Disc-brakes.

Cars to be equipped with 'Super/Stock' Leaf Springs, and special Drag Shocks.

Waiting for transmission information.

No indication of any 'lightweight parts', but several hood scoop designs were employed.

How about a link?

In 1967,

If the Barracuda 383/365 HP 'Super/Stock 'D' 383 package was to be competive,
it would have to run low 12.00's in the {8.70 - 9.49 Wt/Hp) Bracket.

It may have been 'competitive' in A/S or A/SA for 1967, but not sure if the NHRA
would have certified the car as a legitimate 'Stocker'.

The intake system was tested both with a 'Cross-Ram' with twin Holley 550 CFM Carbs,
and an 'in-line' Intake with Dual Carter AFB's

Still waiting for the documentation.

Plymouth was to build a 67' Barracuda Fastback 383/365 HP for SS/D or SS/DA

Dodge was to build a 67' Charger R/T {#3728 lbs.} with a 440 rated at 425 HP,
built much like the 426 Max-Wedge Stage III.

Rico,

Early tests in January 1967,,,,,,

The 67' Barracuda Fastback,,,with an Automatic and tested at Carlsbad Raceway in
January 1967.

Proposed NHRA Class = SS/DA with the 383/365 HP

* 12.5-1 TRW Pistons
* 1967 440 Hi-Po Cylinder Heads
* Camshaft {.515 Lift}{Solid Lifter}
* Cross-ram Intake
* Twin Holley #4160 Series {550 CFM Carburetors]
* Headers
* 2300 RPM Stall Converter
* B & M Transmission
* Transistorized Ignition
* 4.86 Gears
* 9" Slicks

Preliminary Tests........ 12.20's @ 116 MPH

Mr. Oklahoma still waiting for the 'photo documentation'.

The 1967 Barracuda was prepped in December 1966, and tested in January 1967.

Was to be sponsored by the Southern California Plymouth Dealers Association.

With the 'Cross-Ram' and Twin 550-CFM Holley Carburetors, it was supposed to be
a SS/D or SS/DA NHRA Classed car.

A Lightweight Steel Hood with 'proto-type' Hood Scoop was utilized for testing.

Accelerated Tests proved, 12.20's @ 115 to 117 MPH for the 67' Barracuda 383/365 HP for the SS/DA Class.

At the same time, Sox & Martin were running 12.10's with the 67' GTX 440/375 HP
during January 1967 testing, which the GTX was classed in SS/E.

The NHRA Winternationals were set for February 2,3 and 4 1967 at Pomona, and
Plymouth was still unsure whether to build 75 Barracuda cars, as most of the Pro-Racers wanted a Hemi Super Stock car, which was not yet available for 1967.
