Ain't too many Mopars could handle one of these back in the day.

Rusty, you should at least post a real 427. Not much of anyone had anything for this 427.

That wouldn't consistently get a 427 high riser. Especially the early ones that the NASCAR boys used in 64. They used the medium riser engines and put the "new" high riser heads and intakes on them. They were "somewhere" well above 500HP. They dominated the 1964 season. Especially on the long tracks. ......and I love me some Hemi.

They dominated the 1964 season.
Thus the reason they were banned like the 426 Hemi for the 1965 season. Petty boycotted Nascar and went drag racing for the 65 season with a hemi powered barracuda.

Yeah, to my knowledge, that was the only engine NASCAR just out and out said NO to. lol
No, the usual crybabies started howling so they banned both Hemis. Ford said we are not putting the cammer on the street, and Chrysler said they would. The rest is history. Interesting how all the 7 litre engines all ran very well.

The 426 Hemi was never banned. They just kept sanctioning it until Chrysler gave up. And I agree.....it seems 7 liters was a magic number somehow.

Outlawed.
Petty named his drag car " Outlawed"
That's right! I had forgotten about that. Then they allowed it back and he went back after the 65 season. I also remember that accident he had I think it killed a little boy, did it?

A little boy was killed and a few others were injured when he lost control.
That was Richard's last drag race in that car, he buried the car at his shop.
