Hi All: I just saw this for the first time yesterday. I've owned my 1974 Duster since 2019 and was looking at the driver's door lower hinge. I think it might need to rebuild it because it's getting a little sloppy. Anyhow, I noticed these two washers under the hinge - the small washer at the top, and the bigger washer at the bottom of the hinge. Is it possible that the factory did this to shim the door? The previous owner says that the doors were never removed from the car. Any ideas? Thanks - cruiser

The small washer looks as if it may have been dropped and it just landed there. Regardless, I'm with Al on this one.

I had an 84 W150 that had been hit in the drivers door that I had to do that with to get the body panels lined up again!

It was an old old trick to take the slop out of the worn hinge. If you hold it at a cocked position it would tighten up on the pin making it easy to adjust the door. I remember someone doing this many many moons ago.

Looking at pics that you have posted in the past, of work that you have done on your Duster.....I think you would be VERY satisfied with the restoration that @MoparLeo does on door hinges. He did a set for me and they are a work of art.

The above statement is meant to be a compliment to both your and Leo's work.

Thanks! I'll wait for the show season to conclude, then send the hinge to Leo.

If it can wait until Winter, you can remove both doors and send all 4 hinges. You could purchase a spare set and send them early, then just paint the new ones and swap them out. @RAT ROD AL may have a set. He recently parted out a 73 or 74 Duster.
