My hood is hitting the MP air cleaner assy. It has already managed to scar the filter lid. I see now why the previous owner had a Edelbrock assy on there with the 2"(?) x 14" filter element.
We all know the MP assy and the element are 12.75" OD on the filter.

Question #1. Has anyone found a 13x2 element for the MP?

Question #2. Is there a drop base that will correct this and allow a 14x3 assy.

Question #3. Anyone recall a thread on a home fabbed N96 set up?

The 360 had a MP M1 single plane. I am changing to a RPM Air Gap.
My hood was chopped up by previous owner and a glass scoop grafted on. In the process of this they failed to cut the hole in the hood completely out. Hence the MP assy rubbing the hood. I thought about cutting out the rest of the hood, but there must have been a reason they didn't completely cut the hole out originally.

I'd like to replace the hood with a new glass one by that isn't in the budget right this minute.

Mine did the same thing, made a nice impression on my new hood insulation. I have an old cheap chrome Edelbrock air cleaner and the base drop on it was great than the Mopar one, So I'll probably use that to lower it. This was with a 340, Weiand Stealth, Road Demon 625 and no spacer on a flat Power Bulge hood.

Looks like it is about the right diameter for the MP filter assy., and it is shorter too!
13"OD x 10"ID x 2.5"H
Never heard of green filter before.

I have an Action Plus Weiand intake, it's taller than I expected. I'm not going to cut the hood, so if I can't find a drop base assembly that will clear my hood, I'm going to go with what's pictured below, posted by member "easyrider" Sweet looking setup from a Dakota

The Ford Racing Air Cleaner drop base and filter works well with the Mopar lid, it's pricey, but works well. Here's the Summit Racing link: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pro-302-350?seid=srese1&gclid=CJvxyoGrt8QCFUiEfgodoUgASA

And yes, I'm the one who posted the homemade N96 set up: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=229164

I did the same thing, scavenged the drop base and filter from the Ford aircleaner and paired it with my MP lid. Works great, clears the '71 Dart hood on my "demon" just fine even with an RPM air gap, street avenger 670 and a 1/2" spacer on my 340.

That looks like it's worth doing! With that filter I could probably step up to a 1" spacer. The current Ford drop base and filter clear a 1/2" spacer, but there isn't quite enough room for a 1" spacer. 3/4" yes, but not quite 1", and there isn't a lot of spacers out there in 3/4".

But with a slightly shorter filter it might work, even that 1/8" might be enough.

Looks like Summit sells it for $57 too. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gre-5112

you can find a drop base offset air cleaner base only, for cheap on ebay. I used one to center the aircleaner, and lower it to clear my 6 pack scoop w/ a 14x3 filter on it. I think I could probably run the thicker air filter lid, but have read that they showed messed up air flow on the dyno.

You can find a lot of cheap 14" drop base air cleaners on eBay. The Mopar Performance air cleaner is 12 3/4", although the 13" bases do work with it. If you find a cheap, drop base 13" air cleaner base by all means post a link, a lot of people will be really happy.

And yes, you can modify a 14" drop base if you want to get into welding the recessed section into a 13" base. But I figured my time was better spent just buying the ford air cleaner and swapping the bases. Fortunately my g/f has a '71 F100 with a 390, so that Ford Racing air cleaner lid looks great on her truck. ;)

I also found this last night, its a K&N 13"x 2.3" filter that should work with the MP cover. Actually a couple bucks cheaper than the Green filter above

I looked through Ebay and didn't see anything listed for 13" drop base although there were a ton of 14" plates.
On the search for filters I was more successful. I found the following paper filters available in 12.(45-89) and under 3" in height.
Wix42044, CA305, AF139, PAB305, PA2010, SA305, E-1530, but the crown jewel was a Champion filter at Auto Zone #SA305 (this is the old STP filter) $5.99 plus tax. $10 cheaper than any of the other filters.

Use of a 2.50-2.75 filter will cure my clearance problems.

Found this thread while I was trying to answer a question on another, thought I would update it.

Mancini Racing now sells a 13" drop base air cleaner for the Mopar Performance air cleaners...

No more buying Ford Racing kits and stealing the base plate for the MP lid!

maybe one of you on this posting can answer my question.
I have a 74 Dart Swinger. It still has the original air cleaner assembly and I'd like
to go to a open filter assembly, but what do you do with the valve cover to air cleaner
filter and hose? Do you just block it off, remove the filter and block the hole?
Thanks

Just look for a filter/housing that has a knockout in it for that hose. Some even come with a fitting that can be screwed onto the bottom of the base to run the hose to. You may need a piece of hose, as the length may be different.

It's good that you are trying to keep that functional as it is part of the PCV system.
