Like the title says I put rebuilt hinges on the 71 Demon and for some reason the drivers side hinge scraps the cowel area.

We have tried to shim it out with washers and still scraps and scraps bad paint down to primer/bare metal.

I just blasted a used one thats very loose and we are going to paint it and see what comes of it.

I should have said the rebuilt one is very tight to fold even when installed on the hood.

If the used one doesn't work I will be looking for a galss hood to pin on as this has me and the bodyman stumped.

If anybody has any Ideas as to fix this or run into it them selfs PLEASE let me know what you did to remedy this problem so I can get this car back on the road.

Thanks,

A body hood hinges should be loose like the used one you have. As you pull down on the hood, the hinge upper arm torques to the outside towards the fender opening somewhat. That pin that connects the two pieces together is meant to be somewhat sloppy to allow for this outward travel when raising and lowering the hood. That opening in between the fender and cowl isn't very big and if you're scraping there then you're right about the hinge being to tight where it is pinned.

416,
Tight is not the word for that hinge.

You have to pull the hood down and then push it to close and then it just scraps all paint off.

What gets me is I always buy the best and got rebuilt ones and then all this came up so I just got a bad rebuilt on I guess.

Will have the painter repaint the old used one I got and install it and hope it works.

Thanks for the info.
